Saint Croix: One Of The US Virgin Islands

Saint Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands although the capital city, Charlotte Amelie, is located on St Thomas. Saint Croix itself has two towns Frederiksted (pop. 830) and Christiansted (pop. 3,000). The name of the island comes from the earlier Spanish name used by Christopher Columbus in 1493 – Santa Cruz or ‘Holy Cross’. As Santa Cruz, Saint Croix gets a lot of mention in swashbuckling stories of pirates and buccaneers sailing on the Spanish Main.

The populace before the Europeans got there was Arawak and Carib and they had probably been there since about 5000 BC. After 1493 the population of the Caribbean got involved in a 100 years war with the Spanish and the type of people living on the island altered forever.

Saint Croix has been owned and therefore predominantly occupied by the Spanish, The British, the French, the Dutch, the Maltese and the Danish all of whom had slaves and plantations

The slaves were manumitted in 1848, but many chose to stay on Saint Croix. Descendants of slaves still live on the island. The total population of the island is now roughly 60,000.

English is the official language and is the most commonly spoken, although there is also some Spanish, French Creole and Virgin islands Creole, also known as Crucian, which is spoken by most people in informal situations.

This Hispanic segment of the Crucian populace is mostly of Puerto Rican lineage. The US bought Vieques from Puerto Rico during the Second World War and evacuated its inhabitants. Many moved to St Croix because of its resemblance to Vieques. These people have fitted in well, but also kept a few of their old customs. They usually speak a mixture of Spanish and Crucian English in a unique form of Spanglish.

Continental Americans make up about 13% of the population and mostly live on the eastern side of St Croix. Arab Palestinians are also a sizeable minority owning most of the petrol stations and supermarkets on St Croix. Other modern immigrants have come from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Philippines.

There has been some tension between immigrants and those calling themselves ‘real Crucians’, but it has largely evaporated because of to intermarriage. There have been attempts to define a ‘real Crucian’.

The issue seems to have been sorted out when in 2009, the proposed U.S. Virgin Islands Constitution voted by the Fifth Constitutional Convention laid down three definitions of U.S. Virgin Islanders: “Ancestral Native Virgin Islander”, who have ancestral ties (and their descendants); “Native Virgin Islander”, who were born on the island (and their descendants); and “Virgin Islander”, who are any United States citizen who has lived in the region for five years.

Christianity, in the form of Protestantism is the main religion, although the Hispanic community is Roman Catholic. There are also small groups of Jews and followers of Rastafari, Islam.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with St Croix Virgin Islands. If you are interested in St Croix Vacation Rentals in the US Virgin Islands, please click through to our site.

Why Consider A Personal Injury Ohio Lawyer?

If person is injured on the job, and doesn’t seek the right lawyer, they could end up with little money to support their families. You can avoid turning into one of these people by schooling yourself on how to afford a good lawyer, how to spot a good lawyer and what a good lawyer will do. For added security, seek a personal injury Ohio lawyer, because every lawyer serving Ohio must be approved by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. A personal injury Ohio lawyer promises you a professionalism and experience.

One personal injury Ohio firm is Young Sucher PLL. With 45 years of experience and 150 jury trials, this firm has served Ohio since 1981. Both attorneys, Daniel Sucher and Charles Young have been dubbed Ohio Super Lawyers. Charles Young holds membership with the Ohio State Bar Association, Cuyahoga County Bar Association, Greater Cleveland Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Cleveland Trial Lawyers Association, and the Ohio Academy of Trial Attorneys. Daniel Sucher is a member of the Cleveland Bar Association, Cleveland Academy of Trial Lawyers, American Association of Justice, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Justice.

They cover a wide range of practice areas, including: personal injury and medical malpractice, motor vehicle accidents, worksite injury, wrongful death and wrongful termination, aviation accidents, premise liability, insurance matters, professional negligence, products liability, and commercial liability. They handle their cases on a contingency-that means that you don’t have to pay them until you win, and if you don’t win, they aren’t paid. This is one very important quality to look for in a personal injury Ohio lawyer, because it provides the extra incentive to win the case.

Along with their services, on their website, they offer tips on what to do if you’re injured. It will help your case if you keep records of witnesses to the accident, information about all insurances, and names of police officers present at the scene. It’s also a good idea to talk to a personal injury Ohio lawyer before you speak to any company representative, to avoid being persuaded to settle for less than you deserve.

When you’ve been injured, either in any type of accident, you may just want to take the easier route and settle with an insurance company privately. While it may seem like a good idea at the time, a personal injury Ohio lawyer will tell you that it usually isn’t. An insurance company will offer you the lowest amount possible and make it sound like it’s enough. But once you factor in medical bills and living expenses, you will have little left over. If you choose a personal injury Ohio lawyer, though, you will prevent being railroaded by an insurance agent and you’ll have the added advantage of having a professional in the field speak on your behalf. This can go a long way when dealing with tricky insurance companies.

If you are encountering personal injury claims or other legal concerns, you need to contact a Personal Injury Ohio lawyer for reliable legal services.

A Brief History Of Hunting

Archeology all over the world shows that hunting tools, that is, weapons, were some of the first items that we crafted in the ancient history of mankind. Flint arrow heads and spear tips are some of the most prevailing articles found around the world.

In those ancient times, people hunted for food and fought each other. We do not know, but it likely that men and non-pregnant young women hunted animals and collected fruit, nuts and berries, while the older family members looked after the children.

It is uncertain when bows were developed, but certainly more than two thousand years before Christ or four thousand years ago. Earlier than this, hunters probably crept up on or ambushed their quarry and then ran after it, throwing rocks and sharp sticks or primitive spears maybe with fire-hardened or stone points.

It is unlikely that they often killed their quarry out-and-out, they most likely wore it out until it bled to death. This style of hunting deer is still practiced by some hunters in South Africa and to other places.

As people lived and learned, so more complex hunting devices were invented and improved on. The first such item would have been the spear and the second either the throwing arrow or the bow and arrow. It is probable that the throwing arrow came first. This weapon is still used by some traditionalist Aborigine hunters in Australia.

Recurve bows and longbows dating back to 2,000 BC have been uncovered all over Europe and Asia. It seems that the longbow was more common in the north and the recurve bow in the south. Recurve bows can be shorter than longbows and still retain their power, which is perfect for shooting from horse back or chariot.

As farming developed, so did civilization and more and more often, hunting wild animals was left to experts. The creatures that they killed would be swapped for other amenities or, later, sold for money.

For most people, hunting became recreational, a sport or a game and the animals they killed in their free time they called ‘game’ and we still do today in English.

Most peoples of the world did not only create weapons to hunt with, they also trained animals to help them. Dogs, whose forebears were wolves, were probably the first whose assistance was sought. Some dogs were used to recover the gave after it had been shot and dropped into the bushes or the water, other dogs really did the killing.

Later still, the aristocracy would hunt with no intention of eating the animal at all: foxes in Britain and lions in Afghanistan. This is still being done today. Similarly with falcons and eagles.

Other animals were used to help chase prey. Horses equalized the speed difference between man and buffalo or deer. Elephants were used to even out the strength of tigers and offer a safer platform from which to hunt.

Nowadays, few people have to hunt to survive, but it is still a popular pursuit, even though for many it is a one time a year event. The most famous hunting expeditions were and still are the safaris, although now more people shoot with video cameras than with guns.

Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on various subjects, but is presently concerned with compound hunting bows. If you would like to know more or for special offers, please go to our website at Kids Archery Set.

Utilizing Brand New Toppings For The Nations Brand New Preferred Snack Choice

For decades, pizza has truly been a popular diet connected with the American way of life. Pizza pies are actually holding their own versus all time favorites like hamburgers and also dogs. The pizza pie is becoming somewhat of a staple within the North American menu and on peoples kitchen table. Even so, since its arrival inside the class of favorite meals in the U.S., the pizza pie has come quite a long distance in terms of what is referred to as great toppings and exactly what is actually termed as just plain strange.

Some new developments in the manner in which pizza is made and topped off, are starting to come to the forefront. Food items that are used for toppings these days and are also common, in the 60′s would probably have been turned away as ridiculous.

During the last few years, tastes have changed in the United States. While many pizza enthusiasts prefer common pizza types and also toppings like pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms as well as green olives, pizza lovers that happen to be new to the actual pizza scene are generally partial to trying the imagination, to be able to find pizza topping success.

A number of more recent toppings that are not too revolutionary which the particular traditional pizza fan are unable to get past are usually toppings such as chicken, ham with pineapple, and beef, just to name a few. On the other hand, there are toppings which have thoroughly hurt the actual sensibilities of that standard pizza enthusiast.

One main thing which has altogether impacted the newest trend involving pizza pie traditions within this industry is that often the truly great individuals within the gourmet foods industry have started to get involved in the pizza industry, attempting to make it their own. All of a sudden, pizza is no longer only for the super bowl party, or your children’s birthday celebrations, or a supper fix whenever a hard working person comes back home, worn out from their job and does not have the energy to prepare food. It is now the object of attention with regard to societies snobs inside the premium foods circuit.

More and more lately, fine restaurants as well as premium dining places are starting to provide their particular different take on the actual designing of pizza pies. The gourmet food industry delivers sparkle to pizza pies by offering daring topping choices and also permitting imagination and flavor come to the forefront. While some may claim the actual toppings they select are generally outrageous, which, a number of the far more audacious topping choices could be. Even so, a few of the fresh new developments in pizza are truly beginning to take off with the more elite crowd.

It doesn’t matter how you enjoy your own pizza pies, for me, it often appears as if the pizza tastes better, not due to the toppings I chose, but because I usually cook my very own pizzas myself.

If you have ever thought about getting your own wood fired ovens for your backyard, you can find many different types at our website. You can find us at: Home Pizza Oven.

Tennis Fundamentals

I expect that this, my first dissertation on the fundamentals of tennis, will be found useful by both novices and experts alike in the tennis world. I am trying to arouse interest in the student of the game of tennis by a somewhat lengthy discussion of match play, which I trust will cast a new light on the sport of tennis.

I will turn to the novice in my opening article and write of certain things which are second nature to the skilled player. The best tennis equipment is not a lot of good to the novice even if he really wants to succeed. However, one has to buy good quality; it is a saving in the end, as high quality material far outlasts poor quality equipment.

It is vital always to wear tennis apparel when playing tennis. The question of choosing a tennis racquet is a much more serious decision. I do not like to force a certain brand of racquet upon any player, since all the famous brands are of excellent quality. However, the weight, balance, and size of the handle are the really important considerations when choosing a racquet frame, while good stringing is essential to get optimum results.

After having selected your racquet, make a firm resolve to use only good tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is of no use at all. If you really desire to advance at tennis and progress rapidly, I strongly advise you to watch all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the best players and strive to emulate their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction manuals you can find. They are a great help.

It is surprising to many people that more tennis can be picked up off the tennis court in the study of theory and in watching the best players in action, than can ever be learned in one’s own actual play. I do not mean that you should miss opportunities to play tennis, far from it. Play tennis whenever possible, but try when playing to put into practice the theories you have read about or the strokes you have seen.

Do not allow yourself to become discouraged by slow progress. The method of playing some stroke you have worked on for weeks in vain, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the product of hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you dividends all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town.

The brotherhood of the game is universal, for none but an athletic sportsman can succeed in the game for any long period of time. Tennis provides relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the player who is tied hard to his business until late afternoon.

The order of development that produces the quickest and most lasting results is: a. Concentration on the game. b. Keep the eye on the ball. c. Foot-work and weight-control. d. Strokes. e. Court position. f. Court generalship or match play. g. Tennis psychology.

Concentration. Tennis is played first with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique in the world will not suffice if the directing mind is wandering. There are many reasons for a distracted mind in a tennis match. The chief one is lack of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any hope of real success unless he cares enough about the game to be willing to do the drudgery necessary to learn the game correctly.

Jack it in right now if you are not willing to work very hard. The weather, conditions of play or the murmurs in the gallery usually bewilder even very experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete and utter concentration on the game is the only cure for a wandering mind, and the quicker that lesson is learned the quicker the improvement of the player.

The best way to keep a game in focus is to go for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, eventually, every shot in the point. A set is merely a conglomeration of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the final victor.
